About

City: I lived in Davenport, IA @ the time of the accident. I now live in Colona, IL.

Brain Injury: My accident happened at work, I work in a farm/auto type retail store. I was loading out cattle panels, into a customers trailer & 1,000 Ibs of that pushed me backwards to the asphalt. I suffered from brain swelling and was air lifted to Iowa City Hospital, where I had surgery for the swelling, dangerous blood flow and a fractured left ear. They had to remove the left frontal lobe of my skull. I spent 1 week in ICU, then a month at another hospital doing occupational therapy. After the hospital stays, I went to an outpatient therapy, called LIFT. We had an opportunity to create the masks there, it was beautifully therapeutic.

Explanation of Mask: My mask is split in 2 phases. One of which, being confused, unsure-storm like emotions and the other feeling optimistic with a quote “The sun always shines after the storm” with more positive words.
